Place and address search

Using place or address suggestions anywhere on the site sends your search text and browser information to Google Maps Platform. Google’s Privacy Policy applies to that service.

Counted also receives your typed search and optional area scope to find official municipalities, districts and wards. These requests use POST, are not cached or saved to our datasets, and do not put your text in a public search URL.

When you select a province, town or other area, Counted receives its selected name, area type, province and representative coordinates to match our results directory. This request is not cached or saved to our datasets.

When you select an address or landmark, your browser sends its coordinates to Counted to find the electoral ward. Our lookup does not save your address, selected place or coordinates. They are not added to our public datasets. The selected place stays in this page until you leave or choose another location. The Explore map page saves its visible map position and selected electoral area in the page URL, so copying that link shares the map view. It does not include your address text or Google place ID.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand visits, popular pages and use of the site. It uses cookies to distinguish visits and processes information such as the pages viewed, referring website, browser, device and approximate location. We also measure use of sharing controls, including opening the share dialog, sharing, saving an image, copying a link or caption, format changes and errors. These events include the public page path and action type, but not the caption, image contents or selected coalition parties. We disable Google signals and advertising personalisation. We remove query strings and URL fragments from page addresses and referrers sent to Analytics, and disable search, form and map-history tracking so typed searches, address selections and precise map coordinates are not collected by those features.

Google’s Privacy Policy explains how it processes data. You can block Analytics using your browser settings or Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
